Lessons: Don't try guess what your friend's or family member's email address is. Know your own email address and give it out correctly. Last, but not least, if you are told an email address is the wrong address - don't use it again!
My husband and I both started with Gmail early in the game and got Gmail addresses consisting of our first initial+last name (e.g. jsmith@gmail.com and jdoe@gmail.com).
As such, we get a lot of email sent to the wrong people (i.e. people who share our first initial+last name). He gets more than I as his last name is more common.
All names have been changed, but otherwise the emails are as we received them.
